With a devastating impact looming, it is learned that 1 million Americans will be chosen by lottery to go underground into a network of caves built to survive the impact, and the following sequence of disasters.
Infinity: Sugary however choppy film based on the life of Richard Feynman, whose relation with Arline Arquette in pre-WW2. N.Y.C. takes a fateful turn when he is enlisted to work on the Manhattan Project. The scientist won the Nobel Prize in 1965. Cast includes Matthew Broderick, Patricia Arquette, Peter Riegert, Dori Brenner, and James LeGros. (117 minutes, 1996)
Blind Date: Dr. Dullea tests a device that inspires visions on the blind Bottoms, inducing him to become addicted to seizing a psycho murderer who’s on the loose. Powerful cast perks up a contrived thriller, filmed in Greece. Cast includes Joseph Bottoms, Kirstie Alley, James Daughton, Lana Clarkson, and Keir Dullea. (100 minutes, 1984)
A Good Woman: Strange rendition of Oscar Wilde’s Woman Windermere’s Fan, which has been filmed a few times over the years, set in Italy instead of England and updated from the 1890s to the 1930s. A number of Wilde’s British characters now are Americans. Cast includes Helen Seek, Scarlett Johansson, Milena Vukotic, Stephen Campbell Moore, Mark Umbers, Tom Wilkinson, and Diana Hardcastle. Hiroshima Mon Amour: Resnais first film is a considerate, difficult research of a French film actress Riva and Japanese designer Okada, each with a tough past, who have a coincidental event in postwar Hiroshima. Rhythm Thief: Immediately fascinating and arrogant ultra low cost picture of a distant although afflicted Andrews, who lives on N.Y.C.’s dirty Lower East Side and makes his keep by marketing tapes of illicitly copied music. The film is intriguing and seductive at times. It was filmed in 11 nights, for $ 11,000. Cast includes Jason Andrews, Eddie Daniels, Kevin Corrigan, Kimberly Flynn, Sean Hagerty, Mark Alfred, Christopher Cooke, and Bob McGrath. (99 minutes, 1995)
Disturbia: Kale has had his life turned upside down. His father’s death, which he feel responsible for has traumatized him badly. Snapping on an insensitive teacher, he punches the guy out. Instead of jail time he must serve a period of house confinement. Going stir crazy stuck at home, Kale, and his girlfriend Ashley, start spying on the neighbors. This voyeurism gets serious when they start to suspect that one of the neighbors is a serial killer.
